Outer Inks Geocaches
There were a larger number of geocaches in the Outer Inks Trail system a decade ago. I placed them over a wide area, all the way (almost) to the Greenstone Mountain Road and south (almost) to Timber Lake, but when I left geocaching (a longer story), I archived them all and for the years that followed, not many geocachers were active in the area. I continued to hike the trails. In fact, I had to be rescued by helicopter from Dam Lake and be rushed to the ER (another longer story), but I continue to hike the trails.
When there was a new cache at Dam Lake (link), I decided to add some caches on the way there and on the way back on another trail. There are many trails in the area so there is room for dozens more, but for now, here are the new ones:
- Stumps Along the Trail (link) – This is the usual trail I start with while doing some kind of loop route. There are many stumps with soft cores, ideal for hiding caches, so that’s where it is.
- Stumped Along the Trail – Just off the main double track that goes south toward the Chuwhels Mountain area. In a stump…
- Stumps and Trails – Higher up, close to the turn-off to Dam Lake.
- Dam Lake Trail – An ATV track that follows the Alkali Creek Canyon to Dam Lake. I added this one on the way back.
- Stumps on the Hill – up a dirt bike trail to the top of a hill in open forest, part of the loop back.
- Stumping Along the Trail – On a track leading back to the start.
There will likely be more on the area, but I do not go out to hide geocaches. I hike a route and if there are spots to put out new ones and I am in the mood, it adds a bit of adventure to routes I already know well, but it also adds some more work, so it has to balance out.
